Volunteer abroad

Do you want to be a volunteer?

The Peace Institute works with volunteers within the European Voluntary Service, EVS. We are both a hosting and a sending organisation. The EU-funding for EVS voluntary projects is administrated by the National Agencies, in Finland by the Center for International Mobility, CIMO. This means that we only can send youth from Åland (Finland) as volunteers.

We can help you, if you are from Åland/Finland, to find a suitable project. We will apply for funding for your travel costs and we will help you with all the practicalities for the voluntary job. We will keep in contact with you, as well as with your host organisation, during your voluntary placement abroad. We can also apply for money for an advance planning visit to the host organisation, and travel there together with you. It is important and useful for all the three parties to meet before the job begins.

As a hosting organisation we usually have one volunteer each year. Our previous volunteers have come from France, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland (UK), and Poland.

The Peace Institute wishes to deepen the already existing contacts with the neighbouring countries, in particular the Baltic countries, the Kaliningrad region (Russia) and the Caucasus region. Priority shall be given to EVS-candidates from Latvia, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Kaliningrad.

We host volunteers between 18 and 30 years old, who are interested to work within the areas of interest of the Peace Institute (please look at our homepage to be more familliar what we work with).

Our hosting project focuses on peace work and especially autonomies, minorities, demilitarisation, gender equality, and similar issues. Our volunteers help us with organizing events, web-page updating, writing articles, keeping contact with our partners and other activities which are included in our projects. Very often their special language skills are very beneficial for the organization.

We will be hosting one volunteer from summer 2011 until summer 2012. A new volunteer will be recruited in December 2011. If you come from any country mentioned above, would want to be a volunteer from summer 2012 until summer 2013 and your interests matches with ours you are welcome to apply for the vacancy to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
