With Folkhälsan as the core organizer, the Åland Islands Peace Institute, Save the Children, and the Department for Education at the local government are cooperating in order to promote ‘Peace in Schools’. ‘Peace in Schools’ is intended to highlight how important it is that everyone involved in school life work together for a humane educational environment. The purpose of jointly proclaiming ‘Peace in Schools’ and adopting a joint declaration for the school year is to emphasize that everyone at school has a right to a safe and equal learning environment, without bullying and sexual harassment. The aim is also to highlight the school’s operating culture and the physical and psychological security in school. Finally, the purpose is to stress the responsibility of the individual student, the teacher, the home and the staff in the maintaining of friendships and friendly relations in the school. In 2009-2010 ‘Peace in Schools’ was proclaimed on the 28th of August on the main square in Mariehamn, and throughout the year themes and activities aimed at preventing bullying and promoting tolerance will be emphasized. The Step-By-Step Method Since the end of 2008 the Åland Islands Peace Institute has arranged courses in the Step-by-Step method. Step-by-Step is an educational programme for pre-schools and primary schools aimed at advancing students’ social and emotional competence and preventing violence. Social and emotional skills are to be taught and trained in similar ways as other skills. With the help of this programme the home and the pre-school/primary school/after-school meet around desired norms and values. Step-by-Step is pedagogically inclined and easy to use, but at the same time developed on the basis of genuine theoretical foundations and scientifically tested with very positive results. Step-by-Step is available for children in the age groups of 1-3 years, 4-6 years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years and 12-15 years. School Peace proclaimed on Åland

Every year '‘Peace in Schools’ is proclaimed on Åland. In 2011 this was done on the 8th of September on the main square in Mariehamn. Pupils from 4th and 9th grades in Åland's schools participated. Throughout the school year activities related to the theme of School Peace 2011-2012 - respect - will be emphasized.
Stegvis cirkelträff för förskolelärare

16 februari anordnade Ålands fredsinstitut en StegVis* cirkelträff för dagispersonal där diskuterades deltagarnas erfarenheter, vanliga problem och möjliga lösningar.
Sanna Roos, som ledde denna träff, är forskare och doktorand vid Åbo akademi. Hennes främsta intresseområde är mobbning i skolor och förskolor. Som ett viktig argument för förebyggande arbete nämnde hon att resultat från de färska studier visar att den snabbast växande elevgruppen är elever med socioemotionella störningar.

I mitten av februari hålls Steg-Vis-cirkelträffar för dagispersonal och skolpersonal.
Dagispersonal onsdagen den 16 februari, kl. 14.00 -16.00.
Skolpersonal torsdagen den 17 februari, kl. 14.00 -16.00.
Cirkelträffarna arrangeras i ABF-Ålands lokaler, Blå Teatern, Ålandsvägen 55 i Mariehamn.

Inbjudan till cirkelträff

Detta läsår (2010/2011) börjar vi med ett nytt StegVis-koncept för dem som redan har gått grundkursen, nämligen STEGVIS-CIRKELTRÄFFAR. Vi kommer att träffas tre gånger under läsåret för att inspirera varandra till nya tag i StegVis. Under cirkelträffarna kommer vi att diskutera de tre StegVis-teman (emotioner, problemlösning och självkontroll), men vi kommer även att få tips för arbetet med bl.a. gruppsammanhållning, mångfald och mobbning. Handledare är Sanna Roos, utbildare och doktorand i psykologi.Höstens första cirkelträff för;barnträdgårdslärare blir den 4 oktober 2010, kl. 14.00 -16.00, och för lärare den 6 oktober, kl. 14.00 -16.00.Cirkelträffarna arrangeras i ABF-Ålands lokaler, Blå Teatern, Ålandsvägen 55 i Mariehamn.

Skolfreden på torget, 2 september 2010

Läsåret 2010/2011 utlystes skolfreden på torget i Mariehamn den 2 september klockan 13 för alla elever i årskurs 4 och 9. På programmet stod bl.a. sång, musik och dans av elever i Eckerö- och Näfsby skola samt musikinstitutet, vicelantrådet Britt Lundberg höll festtal, varje skola postade två fredshälsningar till en vänskola, vänort fadderbarn eller liknande och så utlyses skolfreden. Skolfredsarbetet är ett samarbete med skolbyrån vid Ålands Landskapsregering, Ålands fredsinstitut, Landskapsföreningen Folkhälsan på Åland r.f. och Rädda Barnen på Åland r.f.
School peace 2010

On the 2nd of September at 1pm, school peace for the school year 2010-2011 will be declared in the town square in Mariehamn, for all 4th and 9th grade students.
The programme includes song, music and dance performances by students from the schools of Eckerö and Näfsby, and from Ålands Musikinstitut, a speech by vice head of the Åland government Britt Lundberg, each school's posting of a greeting of peace to a friend school or similar, and finally a declaration of school peace.
The school peace project is a cooperation between the Åland government, the Åland Islands Peace Institute, Folkhälsan on Åland, and Save the Children Åland.

The 8th and 9th Octobre the Åland Islands Peace Institute in cooperation with Folkhälsan and Save the Children two courses in Step by step. Teacher was leg. psychologist Björn Gislason from Sweden. 50 teachers attended the course on step by step for children 4-11 years, 10 in the course aiming at children 12-15.Step by step is included in the project Peace Education.
